About Adult Advocacy
Who do we serve?
We provide advocacy for people in Boulder and Broomfield Counties who meet the Colorado definition of an intellectual and developmental disability.
Don’t know whether you’re eligible? Adults are determined eligible by our local Community Centered Board, A&I Avenues (Formally Imagine!). If you are unsure if you’re eligible, contact A& I Avenues to inquire about the intake process or to ask for a letter of eligibility.
How can we help?
Advocacy will look different for different people. Here are some of the ways we can help:
Goal-Setting and Planning: Our advocates can meet with you to learn about your needs and desires, and develop an advocacy agreement that charts a path toward accomplishing those goals. Working with you and anyone else you want to be involved, we’ll gather information, explore your options, and make a plan.
Amplifying Your Voice: However you communicate, we’ll work to get your voice heard. That might mean attending meetings with you, helping you communicate with case managers or service providers, or other ways to keep you in the driver’s seat of your own life.
Identifying Your Rights: You have rights. We’re here to help you understand your rights so that they are respected throughout the community. Whether that means setting ground rules for meetings or working with you if you feel your rights have been violated, we’re here to help.
Celebrating Your Successes: Advocacy doesn’t end when you reach your goals. We’ll be right there with you as you celebrate milestones along the road. When we’re done celebrating, we can work with you to help protect the progress you’ve made, or set new goals for the future.
