ReWriting Our Worlds writing group

A monthly writing group for

parents or siblings of children or adults with disabilities

The monthly drop-in writing group usually meets the 2nd Sunday of the month on Zoom. Each session starts with a warm-up prompt, then we do a longer write with a more complex prompt that usually includes techniques for improving your writing. After writing, we listen respectfully to the writers read their work.

We rewrite our worlds as parents of kids (of any age) with disabilities!

Here’s what participants are saying about these groups:

“Writing and experiencing writing with people with similar life experiences is an important resource for me to maintain my mental health, It helps me see things from a fresh perspective. And it gives me a safe, sacred space to share this difficult journey without judgement.”

”Participating in ROW has helped me build connections with others in similar circumstances and re-frame my story to be more positive.”

”This groups has been beneficial in that it has helped widen my perspective about my family and has increased my understanding and compassion for other families, The time with the group provides a break from the stresses of parenting and I leave feeling renewed and refreshed.”

Facilitated by Anna Stewart, a parent, author, and writer. Anna has published over 500 articles, columns, and essays in books, newspapers and online mediums. She’s also taught writing at various organizations and is honored to work with parents who have children with disabilities as we rewrite our stories.
