The ACL is the Arc Chapter serving Boulder and Broomfield Counties. Since 1962 we have been providing resources, training, support and individual and systems change advocacy for children and adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities, their families, friends and communities.

Our Vision

All communities welcome and value the contributions and participation of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Our Mission

The Association for Community Living promotes attitudes, practices, programs and policies that enable people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to be included as a natural and integral part of community life.

  • People First - All people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are defined by their own strengths, abilities and inherent value, not by their disability.
  • Equity - People with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to the respect, dignity, equality, safety, and security accorded to other members of society, and are equal before the law.
  • Community - People with intellectual and developmental disabilities belong in the community and have fundamental moral, civil and constitutional rights to be fully included and actively participate in all aspects of society.
  • Self-determination - The ACL believes in self-determination and self-advocacy.  People with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with appropriate resources and supports, can make decisions about their own lives and must be heard on issues that affect their well-being.
  • Diversity - Society in general and the ACL in particular benefit from the contributions of people with diverse personal characteristics (including but not limited to race, ethnicity, religion, age, geographic location, sexual orientation, gender and type of disability).
  • The ACL strengthens and enables people with developmental disabilities (birth to end of life) and their families to be active in creating fulfilled lives for themselves.
  • The ACL influences meaningful cultural, attitudinal and systems change through an informed and active membership and allies.
  • The ACL is a sustainable, well-known, respected and trusted advocacy organization providing a strong voice on behalf of people with developmental disabilities.
  • The ACL is a recognized authority for its expertise and advocacy on inclusive communities, with knowledge of best practices, policies, innovative ideas, strategies and tools for making it work.
  • The ACL is part of an interlocking network with a shared vision of and commitment to inclusive communities.
  • The ACL demonstrates effective governance and internal management to be a professional, adaptable and responsive organization that meets the needs of people with I/DD and their families.
